Jürgen Klopp
The first award winner of the German-British #Freundship Award was Jürgen Klopp in 2021, the brilliant manager of Liverpool FC, who had already achieved legendary success in Germany with BVB. As an authentic and unpretentious personality, he effortlessly builds bridges, wins hearts, and creates connections between people both in Germany and in the United Kingdom.
On 3 September 2021 the award was presented during a festive gala attended by around 300 guests. Campino from Die Toten Hosen presented the award to Jürgen Klopp, while Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb hosted the event.
Lord Simon McDonald of Salford, KCMG KCVO, was one of the speakers. He is a former British diplomat who served as Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of the Diplomatic Service until September 2020. Since 2021, he has been a member of the BCCG Board of Directors.
Hans-Joachim Watzke, CEO of Borussia Geschäftsführungs-GmbH, was also a speaker. He has been the Chairman of the Management Board of BVB since 1 January 2006.
